The Day Bud with a single locomotive |
Description: |
The LOF41 Day Bud usually operates with a pair of engines, one facing each way, as it can go as far north as Oxnard if need by. On this day, however, it's seen opearting with a single unit as it pulls some drywall onto the Gemco Yard Lead. |

Cotton Belt Lives in 2010 |
Description: |
The LOF41-28 switches GEMCO yard while an unknown railfan watches from a plastic chair he brought to the platform. This job goes to work every morning at GEMCO, and can run a few miles north up the line. Much of its time will be spent arranging trains in the yard itself. |

LA Times Job begins its day |
Description: |
Getting ready for work at J-Yard, a hogger carries his supplies up to his hog, in this case, a former Missouri Pacific GP83-2 coupled to a "Crud" (a former SP SW1500) at J-Yard near downtown Los Angeles. GP38-2 #622 was originally delivered to the MoPac as their #2122 Jan 1975. #Y1199 is older, having been originally delivered to the eSPee as their #2657 May 1972. Nice to see the old units still running. This train will be YJY78R, the Los Angeles Times Job. It will shove to East Redondo, and then move ove to the LA Times lead, which is some might poor looking track. |

"Baby Wings" GP38-2 in J-Yard |
Description: |
Baby Wings adorn the nose of a one-time Missouri Pacific GP38-2 making it look like a fanciful Tyco HO model to my eye. The "Baby Wings" scheme (so named by raiflans) was only applied to 50 units (all by Jenks in 2001/2002). It was a nice scheme.... sorry to see it go away. As an aside, the snow on the San Gabriel Mountains in the background is deceiving... I think it was almost 60 degrees out when I took this shot. |

An Aurant Switch |
Description: |
YLZ71R 20, an LATC Aurant Switch heads light back to Shops Yard in the setting sun. The crew has just put in a huge amount of work on the corn syrup cars in Aurant Yard. This spot was a grade crossing until recently, and one of the few easy places to get a summer shot on this line. Now it's fenced in and not so easy. |
