Sep 1977 "North Hollywood Sabatoge" vicitm in the Bone Yard
The Bull Ring's sad lines of locos sit ready for the torch. While most are Alcos, early U-Boats and a DD35, there is also a wrecked Crud, #2463, the victim of foul play by two teenage boys a year earlier, who had sabatoged the unit, purposely derailing it and two cars on the Burbank Branch on September 19, 1977. Four trainmen were injured in the incident, two seriously. The SW1500 did not run again. In fact, as far as I know, no engine in this image ever did run again after I took this shot.

Michael V Greenspun General Nice yard shot. Your story on 2463 reminds me of a similar incident in Ventura. According to info here on RRPictureArchives SP 1207 continued on as SLGW DS4 and SLEX 1040, and now sits in the Fillmore & Western yard. 2/1/2013 2:34:41 PM
