WPRR 2307
Title:  WPRR 2307
Description:  Found this unit sitting by itself at the Route 8 overpass in St. Mary's Yard on a very wet morning. Like many Willamette & Pacfic units, this one is named for a town on the railroad, in this case, Indepedence, OR. This is a former Santa Fe unit. At one time, it wore Kodochrome colors. Power for this locomotive is provided by a turbocharged 12-cylinder EMD 645E3 diesel engine, which can produce 2,300 horsepower. Railroads that bought it, chose it for its improved fuel econemy over the ormally aspirated GP38-2.

BNSF 2838 leads YLACO711
Title:  BNSF 2838 leads YLACO711
Description:  After a few decades as a main line to the Harbors of Long Beach and Los Angeles, the BNSF Harbor Sub has been reduced to a branch line, and embargoed in the middle. Here on the southern end, where stacks once roamed, we see a local climb Monaco Hill bringin tank cars to the Chevron facility in El Segundo. El Nido Park is in the foreground. Although #2316 shows up as a GP38-2, I show that she is a GP38.

"Blue Bonnets" sunning in the yard
Title:  "Blue Bonnets" sunning in the yard
Description:  I woke up early to shoot some Stockton Sub action on this morning, but unfortunately I was greeted by empty tracks. I did luck out to find this great pair of elderly GEEPS out in the open in Riverbank Yard (and being photographed by some other fans). GP39-2 #2845 was delivered to the Santa Fe as their #3649 in March of 1975. It became SPSF #3148 in July of 1985, only to be renumbered back to ATSF #3649 before December of 1987. It was rebuilt into a GP39-2u and renumbered #3445 at that time. It became BNSF #2845 in September of 1999. GP30u #2466 began life as ATSF #2768 in April of 1963. It also wore #1268 and #3268 before becoming SPSF #2768 in 1982. It was rebuilt in December of 1980, and it became BNSF #2466 in May of 1999.

Delaware & Hudson RW6
Title:  Delaware & Hudson RW6
Description:  The RW6 works its way over Rockville Bridge before turning south towards Enola Yard. This was the "Paper Train" from Rouses Point NY to Potomac Yard, bringing newspaper stock to DC. In order to give competition to Conrail, Delaware and Hudson had been assigned trackage rights to Potomac Yard, Philadelphia, and Oak Island three years earler. They also received thirty locomotives from the Reading and Lehigh Valley. DH 7415 was a Reading GP39-2 when delivered in 1974. It, and sister 7314 (a former Lehigh Valley GP38-2 from 1972) are wearing "Altshul Blue" here.

Delaware & Hudson units
Title:  Delaware & Hudson units
Description:  Waiting at the fuel pad. The GP39-2 is still in Reading "candy apple green." It was delivered #3416 in 1974. It was later renumbered 385 (D&H Class ERS-23), before being reclaimed at the end of lease by its owner CSX in 1991. It's still on their roster. The RS11 was delivered to New York Central in March 1960 as NYC 8009, but was not accepted along with five other units. She was re-sold to D&H (class ARS-18) and labored on The Bridge Line until scrapping.
