SP 4449 on Deschutes Steam Special
Title:  SP 4449 on Deschutes Steam Special
Description:  The proud old Lima glides across the Washougal River Bridge as it nears the end of it's run. This was a Northwest Rail Museum two-day rail excursion between Portland and Bend. The train traveled north from Bend along the Deshutes River crossing the Columbia River and then heading west at Wishram, Washington. Southern Pacific 4449 is the only surviving example of Southern Pacific Railroad's (SP) GS-4 class of steam locomotives. The GS-4 is a streamlined 4-8-4 (Northern) type steam locomotive. GS stands for "Golden State" (a nickname for California, where the locomotive was operated in regular service) or "General Service."
