UP & BNSF race in Cajon |
Description: |
BNSF Dash 9 and UP AC leads their trains in the same compass direction at Mormon Rocks. The BNSF train will head towards Bartsow, and possibly on to the Transcon, while the UP train is going up towards Tehachapi and the Fresno Sub, possibly on to Roseville. #5439 arrived on the UP on April 2005. UP calls CTE equipt AC4400CWs C44AC-CTEs, so to differentiate the ES44ACs (like 5439), they are called C45AC-CTE. In my experience, these are among the only units where railfans use the railroad designation, and not the manufacturer model. One UP rail has dubbed these GEVOs "Super Twinkies." |

BNSF string of stacks |
Description: |
Westbound stacks climb the grade at Vail, and begin to slow for Hobart Yard. Too bad that SD60M wasn't elephant style too. For anyone who's not been to Commerce, it's quite an experience watching these come in. The platform is actually between the main line and a yard track, so you can often be trapped here. And these big stackers come in from the east, often at pretty high rates of speed, while the eastbounds come in fairly slow, building speed as they go. This was shot on Fujichrome Provia 100F. |
